Ryan Edwards is currently in rehab to battle his substance abuse issues, but how did the Teen Mom OG dad get addicted to drugs in the first place? Edwards’ ex-girlfriend Dalis Connell reveals shocking claims about his downward spiral exclusively to RadarOnline.com.
“One of his friends was on pills and he tried it one night when we first started dating,” Connell told RadarOnline.com. “He started taking those while I was in class. I ran track in college and would be gone all day and he was bored.”
Connell, who appeared on Teen Mom during their two-year relationship, claims she was first tipped off about his substance abuse issues when a co-worker confronted her about his behavior.
“I have never been around drugs use so I didn’t know the symptoms,” she said. “I was working and my co-worker asked if Ryan takes anything. She was like, ‘I went to rehab and he fidgets and scratches and has all the signs of someone using.’ I didn’t believe her.”
Edwards finally confessed his dark secret after eight months of dating.
“I walked outside and caught him in the middle of a drug deal and he confessed everything,” she said. “It got worse and worse.”
As RadarOnline.com reported, the model claimed Edwards entered an outpatient rehab in December 2012 for his addiction to Roxycodone for one week before relapsing.
“He wasn’t interested in rehab,” she said. “We had to drag him there the first time. He never said he wanted to get better, he just wanted the withdrawals to stop.”
E! News broke the report that Edwards has been in rehab for two weeks and is “doing well.”
After years of substance abuse rumors because of his bizarre behavior on previous seasons, his ex-fiancée Maci Bookout, who he shares 8-year-old son Bentley with, opened up about his drug use.
“I’m going to be like, you have to go to rehab,” she told her husband Taylor McKinney. “Right now it’s about saving his life. Most nights I’m crying in our bed talking to you about whether or not today is the day he’s going to die.”
Since her relationship with Edwards, Connell has focused her time on her health brand, theFITsation.
“My products are about weight loss or becoming healthy overall,” she said. “I have different programs for working out. I built a community where everyone involved motivates each other and takes challenges. I’m focused on making people reach their potential and be happy with where they are. I try to build people up.”
Edwards and reps for MTV did not respond to RadarOnline.com’s request for comment.
