A mother in Minnesota has been arrested after she allegedly suffocated and stabbed her 3-year-old daughter, who ultimately died from her injuries, RadarOnline.com has learned.
Around 9:40 p.m. on July 10, police responded to a home in Pelican Rapids regarding a report of an unresponsive toddler, as Front Page Detectives reported.
Once at the scene, deputies found a person kneeling and shouting over the girl, who was lying on the living room floor, authorities said.
Officials said the girl was unresponsive and had no pulse. Court records state the person kneeling over the girl, identified as Ibrahim Ali, told police that “she killed her,” in reference to the girl’s mother, 27-year-old Suad Mohamed Ali, according to Valley News Live.
When speaking with investigators, Suad Ali said the child was continuously crying, so she placed her hand over her mouth and suffocated her.
Suad Ali also told police she tried to stab her daughter earlier in the night with a knife, but she didn’t harm the girl. Officers recovered a knife on the arm of a couch in the living room, Valley News Live reported.
While CPR was performed on the victim, the child vomited, police said.
During this time, Suad Ali admitted to shaking and suffocating the child and was smiling during life-saving efforts by emergency responders, authorities said.
Court documents state Suad Ali told police she punched her daughter in the throat and laid on top of her while she was face down on the floor in an attempt to keep her quiet.
The girl was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
On July 11, Suad Ali was arrested and booked into the Otter Tail County Jail, officials said.
She was charged with second- and third-degree murder in connection with the death of her daughter.
