Smith reportedly came up with the plan after he watched the film Scream, then studied the jogger – who ran past his house regularly – for six weeks before enacting his sadistic plot.

“He further planned to place the victim’s body into his closet where the defendant stated no one would know, and the defendant could have the victim’s body all to himself,” the report filed after Smith’s arrest said. “The defendant stated that he also planned to play with the victim to fulfill his sexual fantasies.”

According to police, the alleged attempted murderer placed a clothing robe belt, a rubber mallet, and an Axe deodorant can hidden between two cars in his driveway before waiting for his victim to jog past his house.

The police revealed that Smith “tossed the clothing robe belt over the victim’s head until it was around the front area of the victim’s neck,” but his plan ultimately failed when the male jogger fought back using his martial arts training and subdued the assailant.

After the failed murder attempt and Smith’s arrest, his mother’s boyfriend spoke out revealing that the 18-year-old was a “loner” and struggled mentally following his father’s death five years ago.

“He wouldn’t have been the kid you invited to the cool parties. He wouldn’t be the kid that had the cool shoes,” the mother’s boyfriend said. “We just thought it was odd that he wanted to go out to the movies by himself. A person like Logan is more of a loner. They don’t like to go out of their comfort zone.”

“We are all at a loss for this. It is hard to wrap your mind around the thoughts that were going through his head and what he wanted to do,” he added.
