A wrong-way driver allegedly caused a multi-car crash on a Maryland interstate, resulting in the death of one woman and injuries to nine others, RadarOnline.com has learned.
Around 11:45 p.m. on Aug. 1, police received numerous reports about a white Mercedes SUV driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 270 near Rockville, according to Front Page Detectives.
Officials said the driver eventually got onto the Capital Beltway (I-495) traveling eastbound in the westbound lane.
The driver, later identified as 23-year-old Jayleen Hannor of Macon, Ga., reportedly crashed the Mercedes into a Lexus and Nissan SUV near Maryland Route 355, officials said.
Police said two adults and three children were riding in the Nissan Pathfinder during the crash and they were all injured.
One adult female in the Nissan SUV was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead, authorities said.
Five adults were in the Lexus, all of whom were transported to area hospitals with injuries, police said.
The condition and identities of those injured are unknown as of now, according to authorities.
Hannor did flee the scene, but he was apprehended a short time later and brought to the state police barracks in Rockville, officials said.
He was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and failure to immediately return and remain at the scene of an accident involving death.
