A 4-year-old Detroit boy died from fentanyl and now his mother has been charged in connection with his 2022 death, RadarOnline.com has learned.

On April 10, 2022, Anthony Scott Upshaw was alone in his bedroom with his mother, 40-year-old Chavon Caprice Boone, when he went into cardiac arrest, as Front Page Detectives reported.

The boy’s father was sleeping in another room when he was awakened by Boone screaming, officials said.

He went into his son’s room and found Anthony unresponsive and started giving him chest compressions, The Detroit News reported. Anthony was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died.

An autopsy showed the boy had fentanyl in his system, but investigators said it was unclear how he ingested the deadly drug.

The county medical examiner’s office ruled the cause of his death indeterminate, officials said.

On May 19, Boone called 911 and she was taken to Detroit police homicide detectives, and she turned herself in in connection with Anthony’s death, The Detroit News reported.

Officers said they believe Boone gave her son the narcotics that caused him to go into cardiac arrest and die.

Boone was arraigned and charged with felony murder, first-degree child abuse and delivery of a narcotic - causing death, officials said.

If convicted, she faces up to life in prison for the murder charge.
