A college student at the University of South Carolina was shot dead after apparently trying to enter the wrong house, RadarOnline.com has learned.
Around 2 a.m. on Aug. 26, officers were called to a home in Columbia for a reported break-in. En route, a second call came in regarding gunshots fired, as Front Page Detectives reported.
At the scene, police found 20-year-old Nicholas Anthony Donofrio dead on the front porch of the residence with a gunshot wound to his upper body, officials said.
Donofrio, a sophomore from Connecticut, reportedly lived on the same street as the house where he was shot and killed.
Police said the neighborhood was less than two miles from the main campus of the college the victim attended.
“Preliminary information indicates that Donofrio who resided on South Holly Street attempted to enter the wrong home when he was fatally shot," police officials said.
