TV: Saturday Hot List

We’ve said it before and we’ve said it again—Animal Planet is the best place to be on Saturday nights. First you have It’s Me or the Dog and tonight, Victoria helps newlyweds deal with their two jittery pooches. We hope she can help as it’s too soon for the dogs to tear their marriage apart! And on Underdog to Wonderdog, it’s a “doggie fit club” as the team tries to help an overweight puggle get whipped into shape!

And, Zach Galifianakis is probably the break-out star of the past year. He made The Hangover a box office smash, he starred on the HBO series Bored To Death and he even had a small but memorable role in the Oscar nominated film Up in the Air. So, it’s no surprise that Zach takes on hosting duties over at Saturday Night Live tonight! We can’t wait to see his opening monologue!  And not too shabby—hot band Vampire Weekend is the musical guest!

Wanna feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside? You’re in luck as the ninth annual canine competition-the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship 09/10 -is on tonight. Get ready to see the best in show from the event that took place in Long Beach, CA in December. It also celebrates the 125th anniversary of the American Kennel Club.

There’s another celebration/milestone tonight as Soul Train turns 40! VH1 celebrates with the Roc Doc called Soul Train: The Hippest Trip in America. It features tons of clips from the iconic show and interviews with Don Cornelius, Snoop Dogg, Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, Clive Davis and so many more.

And, the always charming and always funny Ashton Kutcher is hosting Saturday Night Live. Do you think the unofficial “Twitter King” will tweet during his skits? We can only hope!

If you ask us, the best way to spend the first Saturday night of 2010 is cuddled up and watching all the heartwarming stories of dogs and the families they bring so much joy to as featured on Animal Planet tonight.

The second season of Underdog to Wonderdog premieres tonight. The show is literally a Cinderella story for dogs. The team takes stray, misunderstood dogs from shelters and rehabilitates them into the perfect family pet. Tonight, an 18 month pit bull that is fearful of humans goes through a transformation.

Then on It’s Me Or The Dog, tough dog trainer Victoria Stilwell is back to help families and dogs live together in harmony. Tonight, she works with a family that has nine dogs and of course they all disagree on how to handle their overwhelming brood!

In what sounds like a twist on Mary Poppins, James Van Der Beek (remember him? How about Dawson’s Creek?) plays a widower with twins in the Hallmark channel’s original movie Debbie Macomber’s Mrs. Miracle. He’s a tad overwhelmed so he hires a nanny (played by Doris Roberts) to help out and of course she changes all their lives with her “magic.”

If you haven’t checked out Saturday Night Live lately, then we suggest tuning in this evening! Gossip Girl Blake Lively hosts and Rihanna is the musical guest. We’re just curious to discover what kind of sense of humor Rihanna has—think she’ll let the Not-Ready-For-Primetime players poke a little fun at her recent troubles?

There are not a whole lot of TV viewing options tonight, but you’ll definitely be entertained if you opt to stay in!  For example—Cops is one of those shows that just never ever gets old. Watching those “bad boys” do their thing is always a guaranteed good time. Tonight, the police chase a bank robber through Las Vegas and an armed man in San Bernardino, California calls the cops and threatens to shoot innocent bystanders.

But, if you want something a tad more heartwarming for your Saturday night, then check out SuperFetch! Tonight, a puggle is trained to retrieve lost remote controls and a Boston terrier learns to DJ!

If you want to laugh your ass off if you’re in on this Saturday night, then you’re in luck as Wanda Sykes has an all-new comedy special airing on HBO. Called I’ma Be Me and taped in Washington, D.C.—Sykes riffs on everything from having a black president to coming out as a lesbian to her very first bikini wax!

Our new favorite show has got to be SuperFetch on Animal Planet—without a doubt. The show teaches dogs how to do incredible tricks to make their owner’s life easier. Tonight, there are two new episodes. On the first, a wife stops her husband’s habit of hitting snooze by teaching her dog to steal the alarm clock! And on the second, a man looking to be the ultimate ladies’ man teaches his pooch to bring him women’s phone numbers!

It’s a stylish night of TV if you’re looking to makeover your home or your style. On HGTV’s Color Splash, a master bedroom is made over using a cool color palette, luxurious fabrics and lots of beautiful antiques.

On the Style channel’s Split Ends, stylists from South Carolina and Dallas swap places to see how things are done in the salons in their new respective towns. And if you want an update on everything fashion, beauty and style related that happened this past week—then stay tuned immediately after for The Dish. It’s the spin-off of E!’s The Soup but hosted by former Boy Meets World starlet Danielle Fishel.

And if moving is in your near future, the check out TLC’s Moving Up. Tonight chronicles the adventures one family has moving to a new home literally next door to their old one and the trials and tribulations of first time homeowners attempting to make it through renovations.

Well, it’s Easter weekend and Passover is still in full swing so TV tonight is quiet—except for one spring tradition! The Ten Commandments is on so sit back and watch this epic movie if you’ve never had the chance to see the legendary Charlton Heston as Moses.

But, if you’re looking for something a little lighter, then tune into It’s Me or the Dog on Animal Planet. Tonight it’s the human that actually needs more help than the pets! Victoria visits an owner of three maltese dogs who’s just slightly too doting and obsessive when it comes to the pooches!

Sigh, so tonight the ABC guilty pleasure Dirty Sexy Money comes to an end. The show just never could find an audience but ABC was nice enough to not leave the fans that stuck by the show hanging. In the final episode, Karen (Natalie Zea) reveals to Nick (Peter Krause) that she’s carrying, gasp, Simon’s (Blair Underwood) baby!

There’s some paranormal drama to spice up your Saturday night too. On back-to-back episodes of Ghostly Encounters—eerie true stories are told including one about a man who lives with a ghost that helps him write song lyrics and a girl who lives in a home with a haunted basement. On double episodes of Psychic Investigators, a psychic helps a woman figure out what happened when her mother disappeared on a shopping trip and another pieces together the murder of a teenager from thirty years ago!

But if ghosts aren’t your thing yet you still want some thrills? Then tune into Extreme Rides on the Discovery Channel for a peek at the most heart pounding, gravity defying roller coasters and more that’ll make your hair stand up on it’s end!

If you want to watch shows for the last time before they go on permanent hiatus, then tonight is your night. NBC is airing the last of two remaining episodes of Kings, it’s modern day version of David versus Goliath. Next week is the unofficial series finale. Ian McShane is underrated with his sinister role as King Silas.

Later on, ABC is airing it’s second to last episode of Dirty Sexy Money. The guilty pleasure about a personal lawyer and the filthy rich family he works for barely made it through a second season but the salacious scandals are definitely worth watching if you’re in on a Saturday night! Sadly, it’s definitely not coming back as star Peter Krause has already jumped ship to a new show—and network! He’ll be on NBC’s Parenthood in the fall.
