TV: Friday Hot List

The Olympics continue to dominate with most of the other networks putting their primetime shows on hiatus. Figure skating, alpine skiing, skeleton and ski jumping air tonight. In ice dancing, the U.S. has two teams contending while skiers Bode Miller and Ted Ligety compete in the men’s Super G final.

Ricky Gervais’ wildly popular podcast The Ricky Gervais Show turns into an HBO animated series beginning this evening. It basically features Ricky, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington discussing a variety of unusual topics including population control, supernatural events and prehistoric times. One thing you can count on is hilarity to ensue.

And, on What Not To Wear, Stacy and Clinton have their work cut out for them when they makeover a 38-year-old professor with a penchant for mom jeans. We have a sneaking suspicion that those jeans are going straight to the garbage can!

We love that Friday night TV is all about brides and mom’s-to-be. TLC is debuting a brand new show called Happily Ever Faster  that chronicles the craziness that ensues at a Las Vegas wedding chapel! Two back-to-back episodes premiere with a pregnant bride afraid that her dress won’t fit over her bump and a Trekkie wedding that is desperately wants William Shatner himself to serve as the best man. Ahh—only in Vegas folks, only in Vegas!

Then there’s Say Yes to the Dress—the only show on TV where you can see a bride’s family fly to NYC specifically for a “dress intervention.” Another bride invites her mother-in-law to be to attend her fitting—did we mention that they’ve only met twice? Let the sparks fly!

And then there’s Platinum Babies that features the most over the top, out of control, lavish ways couples prepare for the arrival of their precious bundles of joy. Tonight, meet Betsy and Brad—they spend $20,000 on a bridal shower tea party! Oh wait—there’s more. If the spoiled teens on MTV’s My Super Sweet Sixteen aren’t scary enough on their own—then get ready to let out a real scream with the latest movie version of the show called My Super Psycho Sweet Sixteen. In this fictionalized account, a spoiled brat watches her outlandish party turn into a nightmare when a serial killer crashes the bash!

Future brats in training are tamed tonight on the sixth season premiere of Supernanny. Tonight, Jo helps out a family where a father dotes on his biological sons (all under the age of five) but doesn’t do the same for his teen stepdaughter.

And, a different kind of taming happens on The Dog Whisperer. Tonight, Cesar helps a 2-year-old Pekinese that won’t eat or drink and also works with an aggressive Chihuahua and two Chow mixes that do not get along at all.

There’s lots of fun, food-centric reality TV on tonight! Jaime Oliver’s new show to get American’s eating healthy and fight obesity kicks off on ABC. Jaime Oliver’s Food Revolution begins in Huntington, W.V. which is considered the unhealthiest city in America. Jaime shows the town how to cook with healthy ingredients and enjoy a more balanced lifestyle.

On the flip side of the food spectrum, Chef Gordon Ramsey is not a happy camper on Kitchen Nightmares after visiting Anna Vincanzo’s, a family run eatery in Boca Raton, Florida. When Chef Ramsey quickly discovers that owner (who doubles as the chef too) is anti-change — he walks out! Maybe this will be the one time that Chef Ramsey can’t whip a restaurant into shape?

It’s a good night to catch up on all things pop culture. First, E! takes a look at the sultriest women in the music industry with Sexiest—Pop Divas. Joel McHale, however, uses his dry wit, dark sarcasm and even the cold, hard truth to break down for you everything that happened on reality TV, talk shows, morning shows and anything else noteworthy that happened in between. But if you want to watch celebrities prove they have more brains than beauty, then check out Dean Cain competing on Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader. He did play Superman and he was kind of a smarty pants so ya never know . . .
