Man Charged With Selling Armor-Piercing Bullets to Vegas Shooter Stephen Paddock
Douglas Haig was charged on Friday with the manufacturing and selling of illegal ammunition to Las Vegas massacre gunman Stephen Paddock.
According to a complaint filed in federal court in Phoenix, Haig's fingerprints were on the unfired bullets recovered from Paddock's Mandalay Bay hotel room where the crazed killer slaughtered 58 people and injured 800 on the October 1, 2017 attack.
Haig was not licensed to manufacture armor-piercing ammunition.
He was charged just before holding a news conference with his lawyer Marc Victor on Friday after he was identified as a person of interest in police documents released earlier this week.
He told reporters that Paddock was well dressed, polite, and didn’t raise any suspicions.
“He pulled up very well dressed, very well groomed, very polite, very respectful,” Haig told ABC 15 Arizona of his brief interaction with Paddock.
Haig reportedly became a person of interest after his name was “listed on ammunition package” in Paddock’s Las Vegas room, according to 8NewsNow anchor John Langeler.
Haig reportedly owned Specialized Military Ammunition, LLC, which sold “premium, MILSPEC, tracer and incendiary ammunition in popular military calibers,” according to the website, which also noted “We will be closed indefinitely.”
Paddock reportedly purchased 1,000 rounds of tracer ammunition from a private seller he met at a Phoenix gun show.
