Javier Bardem Condemns The 'Public Lynching' Of Woody Allen

Javier Bardem is defending Woody Allen in the wake of the "MeToo" controversy that hit the famed comedian and film director.

"I don't agree with the public lynching that he's been receiving," Bardem said to a crowd at the Lumiere Festival in France on Tuesday, October 16, about controversy over Allen's adopted daughter. "And if Woody Allen called me to work with him again I'd be there tomorrow morning. He's a genius."

Allen directed Bardem, 49, and Penélope Cruz, 44, in the 2008 comedy Vicky Cristina Barcelona. The two later got married.

Bardem stuck up for Allen during a masterclass in Lyon, France.

As RadarOnline.com readers know, Dylan Farrow, an adopted daughter of Allen's former girlfriend Mia Farrow, accused Allen of touching her inappropriately when she was seven years old.

However, RadarOnline.com exclusively revealed that the 1993 report from doctors concluded that Allen did NOT sexually abuse Dylan.

“It is our expert opinion that Dylan was not sexually abused by Mr. Allen,” the report from Yale-New Haven Hospital in Connecticut, dated Mar. 17, 1993, said.

New York State’s Department of Social Services also cleared Allen following a child welfare investigation.

Allen slammed Mia in The New York Times, writing, "Of course, I did not molest Dylan." The famed Hannah and Her Sisters director has claimed ex-lover Mia orchestrated the falsehood  because she was so angry over their break-up.

Allen, now 82, cheated on Mia with her adopted daughter, Soon-Yi Previn, now 48. Allen and Previn have been married since 1997.

Dylan fired back against Allen in a statement to RadarOnline.com, writing, "For 20 years, I have never wavered in describing what he did to me. I will carry the memories of surviving these experiences for the rest of my life." After the scandals involving producer Harvey Weinstein and other stars in the #MeToo movement against Hollywood sexual harassment, the public took a new look at the charges against Allen.

Under fresh fire, Allen's directing projects have been put on the back burner and some actors haven't wanted to work with him.

But Bardem is in his corner and said about Dylan's claims, "At the time I did Vicky Cristina Barcelona, the allegations were already well known for more than 10 years, and two states in the U.S. deemed he was not guilty."

The No Country for Old Men actor added, "If the legal situation ever changes, then I’d change my mind. But for now I don’t agree with the public lynching that he’s been receiving…."

Allen’s most recent film, A Rainy Day in New York, has yet to secure a release date.
