Heartbroken Frankel was photographed sobbing at Shields' funeral on Monday, August 13, after his death on Friday, August 10. Banker Shields, 51, was found dead of a suspected overdose about 9 a.m. in his million-dollar Trump Tower apartment in New York.

The New York Post reported that the businessman -- and The Real Housewives Of New York guest star -- had allegedly overdosed on prescription pills.

Shields reportedly asked his assistant to administer Narcan, which treats opiate overdoses, when he realized his life was in danger. But it was too late, according to the report.

Since his marriage split, Shields had dated RHONY star Frankel, but as RadarOnline.com has reported, their relationship was tumultuous. As a source also told PEOPLE, "Bethenny loved him a great deal but it was an unusual relationship.

"They were on and off. It was unconventional and not always exclusive. They would be together and then not." However, Shields had claimed he and Frankel had still been together about four weeks before he did an interview about their romance on the "Listen Up Show" podcast. Tragically, he was soon dead of a suspected overdose. Before her tweet this Sunday, Frankel had previously paid tribute to Shields in a touching Instagram post in which she shared a photo of the businessman lying in bed next to her beloved dog, Cookie, who recently passed away as well.
