A former student who opened fire at a Florida high school Wednesday left at least 17 people killed and 50 injured.

“I’m saddened to say that 17 people lost their lives.” Sheriff Scott Israel tweeted Wednesday afternoon. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office tweeted: “Victims have been and continue to be transported to Broward Health Medical Center and Broward Health North hospital.”

The gunman was armed with at least one AR-15 rifle and had "multiple magazines" when he opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, according to the sheriff.
