Leah Remini Claims Scientology Could Be Behind Paul Haggis' Sexual Misconduct Scandal

Paul Haggis is facing accusations of sexual misconduct from four women, and now, Leah Remini has claimed the Church of Scientology may have had something to do with it. Defending the screenwriter in what he himself described as a "public hanging," the anti-Scientology activist said that the creepy church leaders would likely try to bring him down – disguising themselves as anonymous accusers in light of the "Me Too" movement.

"We expect the next 'revelations' about Paul Haggis in this campaign to destroy him to be based on information culled from his Scientology files in the form of more 'anonymous' accusers, hiding behind a lawyer who will never have to disclose who is paying their bill," said Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath co-host Mike Rinder along with Remini this Monday.

To that, the Church of Scientology responded.

"Leah Remini, Paul Haggis and Mike Rinder have predictably thrown up a reprehensible smokescreen to turn horrific sexual assault and rape allegations made against Haggis by four women into a bigoted attack about their former religion," the Church's international spokesperson, Karin Pouw, told Deadline in a statement. "To be clear, the Church has never met the women in this case nor their attorneys and knows nothing about the accusations against Haggis other than what has appeared in press reports and public court documents."

As RadarOnline.com readers know, the Crash director, 64, was first slammed for sexual harassment late last year, when publicist Haleigh Breest accused him of having raped her in 2013. After Breest reportedly asked for 49 million to keep the whole thing quiet, Haggis sued the woman, saying her claims were nothing but a "PR stunt."

After the shocking rape accusation, three other women came forward – this January – to accuse the screenwriter of sexual misconduct.

Paul Haggis suggested that the Church of Scientology may very well be behind his recent sexual misconduct scandal, as they have allegedly been threatening him since he left the practice in 2009.

Said his rep: "Mr. Haggis also questions whether Scientology has any role here, which he notes has been attacking him for years with false accusations."
