Just as Oscar Pistorius was set to take the stand in the trial where he is accused of the brutal murder of his girlfriend the judge halted the proceedings until next month.

The Blade Runner, 27, has been very emotional during the testimony in South Africa, covering his ears, collapsing with grief and even throwing up as prosecutors presented evidence from the night he shot Reeva Steenkamp, 29, four times.

The Olympian was going to testify in his own defense as the first witness for his side.

However, the judge informed the court that her assessor was ill.  The assessor assists the judge in the case as South Africa does not have jury trials. The trial will resume on April 7.

Pistorius claims he believed his girlfriend was an intruder when he shot her through the bathroom door, killing her.

As Radar previously reported, should Pistorius be convicted of premeditated murder, he could be sentenced up to life with a 25-year minimum sentence. If convicted of murder, he could face up to 15 years in custody.
