As comedian Rodney Dangerfield famously once said: "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out!"

While on-ice brawls are a common sight in the sport of hockey and enthusiastically encouraged by fans, a steely stare-down between two players led to one of the most bizarre chilly interactions ever seen – with confused fans wondering if they were going to punch it out or kiss and make up, and RadarOnline.com has the hilarious video that has now gone viral.

Francis Lessard of the Cornwall River Kings and Sebastien Laferriere of HC Carvena de Sorel-Tracy did a dainty dance around each other after dropping their gloves during the February 24 LNAH game, but rather than coming to blows, they skated in circles locking eyes – looking more like a pair of figure skaters than furious fighters!

Even the referees surrounding the two players became impatient after nearly a minute went by with no action, sending the pair to the penalty box, reported the Huffington Post.

According to Hockeyfights.com, neither player is a stranger to getting down and dirty during a game, with Lessard knocking up 16 fights so far this season and Laferriere with 30 under his belt.

Seemingly needing to cement their manhood after the silly standoff, the rivals finally fought just minutes after getting handed down penalties and got in 15-seconds of serious punches.

The game was part of the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey (or North American Hockey League), a low-level professional league based in the Canadian province of Quebec that was founded in 2004 and is more famous for its regular fisticuffs than skillful play.
