These two actresses are already known to look alike. That's why Amy Adams played Jim's girlfriend on The Office in season 2. She's supposed to look like Jenna Fischer's character Pam to show even more that Jim is in love with Pam.

I agree that they do look similar, but I don't think it's because everyone's trying to look alike.
