Cute as buttons in sailor suits and bonnets, Full House stars Mary-Kate and Ashley were both already huge TV stars when they appeared at an ABC event to promote old and new stars in 1993 at the tender age of seven.

By 15, the pint-sized actresses had grown from child stars to teenage sensations as they walked the red carpet at the Rush Hour 2 premiere in contrasting halter tops and fitted pants.

Sweet sixteen and still matching. The twins again wore the same butterfly top in slightly different shades at the Austin Powers in Goldmember premiere in July 2002.

Defining their own personal style at seventeen, the Olsens wore different but complimentary dresses for the Charlie’s Angels 2 premiere in June 2003. Ashley opted for a floaty brown and white floral dress while Mary-Kate was more daring in a Japanese-style kimono.

The twins began to carve out their own style niches as they came of age, with Mary-Kate donning darker hair and serious dresses and Ashley keeping it blonder and more youthful in a stripy top and flared pants at the Kid’s Choice Awards in 2004.

The sisters were blossoming into pint-sized fashionistas by 2005 when they attended the Costume Institute Gala to celebrate one of their favorite labels, Chanel. After checking into rehab the year before for an eating disorder, Mary Kate still looked noticeably thinner as she hid her bones under a drapy white dress while Ashley showed off her figure in a gold cocktail dress.

As different as night and day, Ashley grew up into demure damsel in sheer black gown at the AMfar Cinema Against AIDS event in May 2005, as Mary-Kate’s style got increasingly kookier in an embroidered jacket and bohemian skirt.

By 2006, Ashely had followed in her twins’ footsteps and swapped her blonde locks for a dark shade that dramatically contrasted her green gown at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards in 2006, while Mary-Kate increasingly hippie-ish with a middle-parting and baggy dress that drowned her small body.

Mary-Kate showed off her love of both fur and drama in a long fur stole at the In Style and Warner Bros Golden Globes After party in 2007, as Ashley stuck with a less PETA-offensive sparkly gown.

Already CEOs of their own company, the young entrepreneurs looked business-like and professional at the MoMA Benefit honoring Tim Burton in November 2009. Mary-Kate once again showed off her animal instincts in a leopard print jacket and Ashley looked ready for the office in a pea coat and briefcase.

In colorful harlequin cropped and shoulder-padded feather jackets at the NINE arrivals in December 2009, the twins sense of style became increasingly unique as they grew older and launched their own fashion line, The Row.

The girls wore two very different but equally as see-through gowns for the Elle Style Awards in February 2010. Ashley choice couture with a tulle Christian Lacroix gown that trailed down the red carpet, as Mary-Kate was seriously sheer in black Lanvin.

Founders of the homeless chic look, Ashley and Mary-Kate’s crochet scarf and embroidered blouse at Mark Townsend’s MARKTBeauty.com launch in June 2010 would have been just as fitting on a grandmother as a pair of 24 year olds.

Both twins have been criticized by PETA for wearing too much fur and using it in their fashion line, The Row, so the animal rights group was surely upset by their coordinated fur jackets at the 2010 CFDA Fashion Awards/ Vogue Fashion Fund.

The fashionable duo were a striking sight at the Metropolitan Opera Gala premiere of La Compte Ory in March 2011 in head-to-toe Yves St Laurent. Ashley wore a black tear dropped pattern with a dark teal-green fur tippet and Mary-Kate stuck to more somber grey and black by the same designer.

Mary-Kate added a huge splash of color to the red carpet at The Union premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in April in an orange fur jacket by Thakoon, matching baggy pants and towering Balenciaga strappy sandals. For once it was Ashley who covered up in a full black dress and matronly wool jacket.

Black on black was the theme of the night when the Cinema Society and Thierry Muggler hosted a screening of Midnight In Paris in May as the twins stuck to the same outfits they’d worn to meet with fashion guru Diane Von Furstenberg earlier in the day. Mary-Kate broke up her gothic black look with bright red heels, while Ashley looked like she was wrapped in a giant polka-dot handkerchief.

For their favorite event, the CFDA Fashion Awards this year, both twins used the opportunity to promote their fashion label, The Row.  Ashley kept it elegantly simple in a blue dress while Mary-Kate livened up a plain black skirt with a glittering gold jacket.
