A nearby neighbor heard commotion near Kerr's mansion, followed by gunshots, which urged the eyewitness to call the cops right away.

"It's kind of a crazy thing to happen out here in Malibu," Miranda's neighbor Craig Moore told radio station KTLA. "I guess it happens everywhere but we just don't ever have it happen in our neighborhood."

An officer confirmed to RadarOnline.com that neither Kerr nor her 5-year-old son were home when the break-in occurred.

The violent scene unfolded when a security guard spotted the man trying to enter the supermodel's home. "There was a fight with a security guard and the guy tried to stab the guard in the face area," a Malibu-Lost Hills Sheriffs Department told RadarOnline.com. "He did have wounds to the face."

Police also noted that the security guard "drew his weapon and shot the intruder 3 to 4 times" in "the head, chest and back." But the bullet to the head was not "penetrating." Both the security guard — who was stabbed — and the thief were immediately airlifted to a local hospital, where they were put under critical condition following their battle.
