A Wife Betrayed: TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8 started out as a heartwarming TV reality show depicting the journey of Jon and Kate Gosselin as they raised both sextuplets and twins. But cracks showed in the marriage as Kate belittled her husband on camera. And in May 2009, US Weekly revealed Jon Gosselin’s three-month affair with 23-year-old elementary school teacher Deana Hummel! In December 2009, Jon and Kate divorced after ten years of marriage.
Jon & Kate Plus Fake: The Gosselins’ TLC reality show had to phony it up to make it look like they were still together after their scandal-fueled split, sources said. The show depicted Jon and Kate as man and wife for quite some time after they had broken up--and after Jon had actually been stashed in an apartment over the garage. The scam was up when Radar broke the story that the marriage was over--because Kate’s own brother had spilled the beans!
Jon & Kate Plus 8 Implodes: TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8 was wrecked by Jon and Kate Gosselin’s on-air bickering and tabloid reports of his infidelity. Season 5’s June 22, 2009 episode featured the couple’s official breakup statement. Kate said, “We have decided that we will separate. I know it’s necessary because my goal is peace for the kids.” The show continued as Kate Plus 8, showing Kate as a single mom, but the ratings tanked and it was soon canceled.
Jon’s Couples Therapy Scam: Just when we hoped we’d seen the last of the disgraced father of eight on TV, Jon landed a spot on the current season of VH1′s Couples Therapy. And Radar exclusively learned he “shopped” around for a girlfriend to join him on the show. Gosselin is appearing on the reality show with his alleged current girlfriend Liz Janetta, but insiders revealed that his former gal, Hailey Glassman, turned him down flat when he asked her to do Couples Therapy with him.
Jon Talks Trash About Kate: As Radar has reported, Jon caused shock at the end of 2013 by going on an expletive-laced tirade against his ex-wife. “Everyone knows she’s an a**hole, you know what I mean?” he told Philadelphia magazine. “Kate wants to still be on television. She’s now digging into the past, because that’s what sells. Too late, honey. No one gives a f**k, really.” But was the pot calling the kettle black? The interview was done on the eve of Jon’s own return to reality television in Couples Therapy.
Jon Plus Wait Staff: In 2013, Jon Gosselin hit rock bottom by having to work as a waiter at a Pennsylvania pub. But he later got a promotion! After filming Couples Therapy in L.A., Radar reported, he went back home to work as the maitre d’ at the Black Dog Cafe in Stouchsburg.
Dancing Diss: Kate faced widespread criticism of her bizarre performances on the tenth season of Dancing with the Stars in 2010 and was seen being difficult in rehearsals with partner Tony Dovolani. Two years later, the dance pro confided to Anderson Cooper that he needed “a lot of therapy” after his pairing with Kate. She fired back on her blog, saying Dovolani mischaracterized their partnership.
Kids Harmed By TV?: Jon said his eight children have problems developmentally because of growing up on TV. Speaking to Oprah Winfrey for her show Where Are They Now? on OWN, Jon sighed, “I saw my kids not growing up normally, like I grew up.” According to Jon, his twin daughters Cara and Mady, and the sextuplets Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Alexis, Joel and Leah “have problems with their peers, and they have problems with talking to other people, and they have problems with wants and needs and manners and morals and what’s right and what’s wrong.” Kate denied Jon’s conclusions on her blog, calling their kids “normal….and well adjusted.”
Gunning for the Paparazzi: Jon hit the headlines in September 2013 by pulling a gun on a paparazzo allegedly trespassing on his property. The former reality TV dad fired a warning shot. However, as Radar exclusively reported, sources say Jon has a deal in place with a specific photographer in which they will split the profits equally. So when he waved the gun to warn the photographer about trespassing on his property, the source said, he was actually trying to protect his own deal!
Kate Sues Jon Over Tell-All Book: In August 2013, Kate blindsided her ex with a multi-million-dollar hacking, wiretapping and identity theft lawsuit, claiming Jon had helped journalist Robert Hoffman write a scandalous book, Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled The World. After a ton of bad press for both sides, Kate later dropped the suit against Jon. However, Kate’s lawyers successfully got Hoffman’s book (in which he had alleged she abused her kids) banned from distribution.
Child Support Scandal: In September 2013, father of eight Jon revealed that he doesn’t pay his ex a penny of child support. Jon explained to Entertainment Tonight he doesn’t pay child support but justified it by saying there are two households: “[Kate and I] both support [the children] financially because she takes care of school and all that stuff but I take care of the exact same things she takes care of. I buy their own groceries, they have their own groceries at my house, their own bedrooms, their own stuff, it’s doubled.”
Kate Racism Controversy: In June 2013, a photo surfaced that appeared to show Kate mocking Asians. As Radar reported, the photo showed Kate holding her fingers to her eyes to make them slanted. But Kate explained on her blog that the photo was taken during happier times “goofing off” with then-husband Jon, who is Asian. She said she did her “best Asian impression” to make him smile and it was innocent family fun.
Jon Killed A Clothing Brand?: In June 2013, Radar reported reality star Jon’s endorsement of Ed Hardy clothing killed the brand! None other than Ed Hardy himself said that the brand flopped after Jon split from Kate, and struck up a friendship with Christian Audigier, who licensed Hardy’s art for shirts and other products. Hardy told the New York Post that Jon was repeatedly photographed wearing Ed Hardy clothing and that association was deadly for the brand. “That Jon Gosselin thing was the nail in the coffin,” Hardy said. “That’s what tanked it.”
Jon Gosselin’s Ex Sticks Up For Kate: In March 2013, in the midst of Kate Gosselin’s search for witnesses for her lawsuit against Jon (which she later dropped), his one-time girlfriend Kate Major exclusively told Radar she’d gladly testify for Kate! Major, who has since gone on to have a baby with Lindsay Lohan’s dad, Michael, previously dated Jon and she admitted, “Jon was always trying to ruin Kate and accuse her of being a bad mother. He spread rumors she was sleeping with [her bodyguard] Steve and he was trying to rally his friends against her as a mom.”
Kate’s Cookbook Burns: As Radar reported, Kate didn’t win over any new fans with her 2013 cookbook, Love Is In The Mix. The customer reviews on Amazon were devastatingly bad, and the book didn’t sell. “What a terrible waste of time and money. Recipes seem to be recycled from the back of soup cans and internet recipe sites,” a reviewer named Jason wrote on Amazon.
Kate: My Kids Can Write a Tell-All!: The self-promoting reality TV mom raised eyebrows recently by saying she’d be “fine if the kids wanted to write a tell-all book.” So much of what’s been written about the eight Gosselin kids is “untrue,” Kate said during an interview on Memphis radio station, WMC-FM, so they should be able to tell their own history.
Online Battleground: In May 2013, the Gosselins became the center of a new controversy as James McGibney from Bullyville.com promised to lead a class-action lawsuit against people he said had “crossed the line” in regards to Kate and her followers. As Radar reported, McGibney and supporters released information accusing anti-Kate blog writers of harassing people who had expressed support for the mom of eight. The blog that allegedly featured threats against Kate later got shut down.
I’ve Been Bullied: In Feb. 2013, Kate Gosselin revealed online bullying left her with “deep scars.” As Radar reported, the mother of eight opened up to BullyVille about what she categorized as emotional bullying, in a piece titled, “My Experience with Real Life and Internet Bullying” — claiming not only that she was bullied in middle school, but she was also the victim of “adult bullying.”
Jon’s Ex Tells All: After Hailey Glassman, Jon’s girlfriend after his divorce from Kate, split up with him, she told the media that Jon would tip off the paparazzi as to their location without her knowledge. “I had no idea how the media worked,” she said in 2012. “I find out while I’m hiding under the bed that he was setting me up the whole time with pictures. And I’m thinking to myself, ‘How did they know I’m here?’”
Jon Gosselin's Apartment Vandalized: In 2009, Jon returned to his New York apartment to find it ransacked and sliced and diced into a million pieces. The word “cheater” was carved into the headboard of his bed. His former live-in girlfriend Hailey Glassman, who had moved out that very week, denied being the perpetrator.
Kate’s Plastic Surgery: In 2006, Kate got a tummy tuck on TV to repair the damage done to her body from giving birth to twins followed by sextuplets. However, Kate said she hasn’t had any other procedures. Still, as Radar has reported, Kate’s fresh faced appearance in 2011 sparked rumors she’d had a face lift. A prominent plastic surgeon who has not treated Kate told Radar that fat transfers are more likely to have caused her change in appearance.
Kate Sued: In 2011, the reality TV star’s marriage counseling company sued her for an unpaid bill of $10,476 after Kate had allegedly sought help for her troubled relationship with husband Jon two years earlier. Kate testified that she never had a contract with the company, but a judge ordered her to pay the bill!
Kate Cries Poverty: The former TLC queen revealed in 2013 how far her income has fallen. “I’m living very carefully these days,” the mother-of-eight said, adding that “to not have a reliable income is scary.” Kate admitted her days of being trailed by the paparazzi “feels like a whole other lifetime ago.” She also said, “I made so many mistakes.”
Gosselin Kids Nuzzle A Pit Bull: In 2012, Jon’s girlfriend Liz Janetta sparked outrage when she posted photos of he and Kate Gosselin’s ‘s children nuzzling a pit bull dog. A source also told Radar the money-saving website had received negative feedback about Kate from readers.
Kate’s Bodyguard Controversy: Rumors swirled in 2012 over the relationship between Kate and her attractive and married bodyguard, Steve Neild. Amongst other things, Radar reported that a Philadelphia reporter spotted Neild with his arm around Kate. But Kate denied ever hooking up with her protector and he hasn’t worked for her since she hit financial hard times.
Gosselin Kids Expelled: Radar discovered in 2010 that Jon and Kate’s kids Alexis and Collin were expelled from school. One of the expelled Gosselin kids physically harmed an adult at the school two times, creating a situation that caused school administrators to believe they had no choice but to remove that child from school, Radar learned. Also, sources said both the Gosselin children were abusive to other kids at the school. But Kate lied to Entertainment Tonight, denying that Alexis and Collin, then 6, were expelled. "The school would never use that word," she said. "[Collin and Alexis] were not expelled. [The school] did not feel like they could meet their needs anymore, so it was decided they should leave, for now."
Kate’s Nannygate: The public was shocked at Star Magazine’s report that a nanny who watched over Kate’s eight children (after her divorce from Jon) had a criminal past, as she was arrested for shoplifting prior to her stint with the family. Ariel Cantara had allegedly pilfered $44 in goods from a store in 2009. She ultimately wound up with a non-traffic citation in the amount of $173.50. But Cantara was just one of the many nannies to quit on Kate, Life & Style reported in 2010. “She has gone through about 11 nannies and tons of helpers in the past few years,” a source told the magazine. “Shifts can last up to 24 hours…You work when Kate says she needs you to work.”
‘The Help’ Tells All: According to a Star Magazine article, Kate got so concerned about looking good that if she ran out of a certain beauty product, she would scream at the staff. Kate’s helpers often had to work overtime watching the mom’s eight kids while she was obsessing over her outfits, makeup, and hair, said the magazine source.
