But cracks showed in the marriage as Kate belittled her husband on camera. And in May 2009, US Weekly revealed Jon Gosselin’s three-month affair with 23-year-old elementary school teacher Deana Hummel! In December 2009, Jon and Kate divorced after ten years of marriage.

The show depicted Jon and Kate as man and wife for quite some time after they had broken up--and after Jon had actually been stashed in an apartment over the garage. Jon & Kate Plus 8 Implodes: TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8 was wrecked by Jon and Kate Gosselin’s on-air bickering and tabloid reports of his infidelity. Season 5’s June 22, 2009 episode featured the couple’s official breakup statement. Kate said, “We have decided that we will separate. I know it’s necessary because my goal is peace for the kids.” The show continued as Kate Plus 8, showing Kate as a single mom, but the ratings tanked and it was soon canceled.

Jon’s Couples Therapy Scam: Just when we hoped we’d seen the last of the disgraced father of eight on TV, Jon landed a spot on the current season of VH1′s Couples Therapy. And RadarOnline.com exclusively learned he “shopped” around for a girlfriend to join him on the show. Gosselin is appearing on the reality show with his alleged current girlfriend Liz Janetta, but insiders revealed that his former gal, Hailey Glassman, turned him down flat when he asked her to do Couples Therapy with him.

Jon Talks Trash About Kate: As RadarOnline.com has reported, Jon caused shock at the end of 2013 by going on an expletive-laced tirade against his ex-wife. “Everyone knows she’s an a**hole, you know what I mean?” he told Philadelphia magazine. “Kate wants to still be on television. Kids Harmed By TV?: Jon said his eight children have problems developmentally because of growing up on TV. Speaking to Oprah Winfrey for her show Where Are They Now? on OWN, Jon sighed, “I saw my kids not growing up normally, like I grew up.” According to Jon, his twin daughters Cara and Mady, and the sextuplets Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Alexis, Joel and Leah “have problems with their peers, and they have problems with talking to other people, and they have problems with wants and needs and manners and morals and what’s right and what’s wrong.” Kate denied Jon’s conclusions on her blog, calling their kids “normal….and well adjusted.”

Gunning for the Paparazzi: Jon hit the headlines in September 2013 by pulling a gun on a paparazzo allegedly trespassing on his property. The former reality TV dad fired a warning shot. However, as RadarOnline.com exclusively reported, sources say Jon has a deal in place with a specific photographer in which they will split the profits equally. So when he waved the gun to warn the photographer about trespassing on his property, the source said, he was actually trying to protect his own deal!

Kate Sues Jon Over Tell-All Book: In August 2013, Kate blindsided her ex with a multi-million-dollar hacking, wiretapping and identity theft lawsuit, claiming Jon had helped journalist Robert Hoffman write a scandalous book, Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled The World. After a ton of bad press for both sides, Kate later dropped the suit against Jon. However, Kate’s lawyers successfully got Hoffman’s book (in which he had alleged she abused her kids) banned from distribution.

Jon explained to Entertainment Tonight he doesn’t pay child support but justified it by saying there are two households: “Kate and I both support the children financially because she takes care of school and all that stuff but I take care of the exact same things she takes care of. I buy their own groceries, they have their own groceries at my house, their own bedrooms, their own stuff, it’s doubled.”

Kate Racism Controversy: In June 2013, a photo surfaced that appeared to show Kate mocking Asians. As RadarOnline.com reported, the photo showed Kate holding her fingers to her eyes to make them slanted. But Kate explained on her blog that the photo was taken during happier times “goofing off” with then-husband Jon, who is Asian. She said she did her “best Asian impression” to make him smile and it was innocent family fun.

Jon Killed A Clothing Brand?: In June 2013, RadarOnline.com reported reality star Jon’s endorsement of Ed Hardy clothing killed the brand! None other than Ed Hardy himself said that the brand flopped after Jon split from Kate, and struck up a friendship with Christian Audigier, who licensed Hardy’s art for shirts and other products. Hardy told the New York Post that Jon was repeatedly photographed wearing Ed Hardy clothing and that association was deadly for the brand. “That Jon Gosselin thing was the nail in the coffin,” Hardy said. “That’s what tanked it.”

Kate: My Kids Can Write a Tell-All!: The self-promoting reality TV mom raised eyebrows recently by saying she’d be “fine if the kids wanted to write a tell-all book.” So much of what’s been written about the eight Gosselin kids is “untrue,” Kate said during an interview on Memphis radio station, WMC-FM, so they should be able to tell their own history.

The Gig’s Up!: Kate’s deal working for CouponCabin.com didn’t even last one year, RadarOnline.com reported in 2012. The company’s CEO released an open letter announcing Kate’s release from the company, saying, “A series of recent events have made it clear to me that Kate Gosselin and her contributions do not align with the authenticity which we set out to build almost a decade ago.” Ouch! A source also told RadarOnline.com the money-saving website had received negative feedback about Kate from readers.

Kate’s Bodyguard Controversy: Rumors swirled in 2012 over the relationship between Kate and her attractive and married bodyguard, Steve Neild. Amongst other things, RadarOnline.com reported that a Philadelphia reporter spotted Neild with his arm around Kate. But Kate denied ever hooking up with her protector and he hasn’t worked for her since she hit financial hard times.

Gosselin Kids Expelled: RadarOnline.com discovered in 2010 that Jon and Kate’s kids Alexis and Collin were expelled from school. One of the expelled Gosselin kids physically harmed an adult at the school two times, creating a situation that caused school administrators to believe they had no choice but to remove that child from school, RadarOnline.com learned. Also, sources said both the Gosselin children were abusive to other kids at the school. But Kate lied to Entertainment Tonight, denying that Alexis and Collin, then 6, were expelled. "The school would never use that word," she said. "Collin and Alexis were not expelled. The school did not feel like they could meet their needs anymore, so it was decided they should leave, for now."

Kate’s Nannygate: The public was shocked at Star Magazine’s report that a nanny who watched over Kate’s eight children (after her divorce from Jon) had a criminal past, as she was arrested for shoplifting prior to her stint with the family. Ariel Cantara had allegedly pilfered $44 in goods from a store in 2009. She ultimately wound up with a non-traffic citation in the amount of $173.50. But Cantara was just one of the many nannies to quit on Kate, Life & Style reported in 2010. “She has gone through about 11 nannies and tons of helpers in the past few years,” a source told the magazine. “Shifts can last up to 24 hours…You work when Kate says she needs you to work.”
