The tale of Romeoville couldn’t be better if the Bard wrote it himself. The legend goes that in the 1830s, nearby Joliet was named Juliet and the nearby settlement Romeo was its twin community. In 1845, Juliet was renamed Joliet to honor the explorer Louis Jolliet. The town of “Romeo” then renamed itself Romeoville to acknowledge the busted relationship.

“The city with a heart” was named after its founder, Malcolm Love, who purchased 236 acres of land at the turn of the 20th century. The town is situated just outside Rockford, IL and 80 miles northeast of Chicago.

Although the name implies romance, Loveland, CO is better known as the “Gateway to the Rockies. Like Valentines, IL, the postmaster of Loveland is kept busy around Valentine’s Day resending mail with the Loveland postmark.
