Washington D.C. or Bust

Despite her husband’s 2008 historic electoral win Michelle Obama almost didn’t move into the White House, according to The Obamas, a book by Jodi Kantor. The mom-of-two apparently wanted to remain in Chicago with daughters Malia and Sasha and travel to the capital as needed. But she allegedly changed her mind after visiting George and Laura Bush in the White House and seeing her children slide down the banisters.

White House ‘Hell’

In 2010 the Obama camp had to play damage control and deny reports Michelle had allegedly told Carla Bruni that living in the White House was “hell.” The claim was made in a book about the former French First Lady. According to Kantor, Michelle allegedly said: “I don’t have to be on the cover of Vogue wearing something that costs $20,000.”

Rocky Marriage?

There have long been claims that the Obamas’ relationship has hit rough patches. In addition to Donald Trump’s allegations that they were once headed for divorce, in 2000 they reportedly hit a speed bump during the President’s unsuccessful bid for Congress. Kantor alleges that Michelle felt her husband was taking on too much by juggling his political ambitions with teaching law and being a family man.
