Parenting Shocker: Although she’s portrayed on TV as an eccentric but loving mother, "Mama" June Shannon allegedly once abandoned her oldest daughter Anna "Chickadee" to run off with a boyfriend, according to a National Enquirer report. Sources said June dumped Anna at her grandmother Sandra Hale’s house so she could move into a trailer with her then-boyfriend. Later, child welfare officials reportedly stepped in and awarded sole custody of Anna to Sandra.
More Money Honey: After season one of their show was a hit, TLC network gave Alana, now 8, and her family a raise to a whopping $50,000 per episode, Parade magazine reported in 2013. And Mama June Shannon has said she’s diligently setting the money aside on behalf of her daughter, known for her catchphrase, “A dollar makes me holler.”
Go-Go Juice: Viewers were appalled (when Alana and Mama June appeared on their first TLC show, Toddlers & Tiaras), that the little girl was fed energy drinks by her mother. The child beauty pageant contestant got the strength to compete from “go-go juice,” a mixture of Red Bull and Mountain Dew! Mama June told People magazine, “It was a one-time only thing.” However, “Pumpkin” has also been seen on TV dipping baby Kaitlyn’s pacifier into a can of Mountain Dew Code Red!
Unexpected Visit: Production "nearly came to a screeching halt" during the first season of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo when Georgia's Division of Family and Children Services visited the Thompson family, according to the National Enquirer. Authorities were concerned after seeing footage on YouTube of Alana “Honey Boo Boo” dancing on a college bar. No charges were ever filed, and Mama June vowed, “I’m not gonna put Alana in that situation again.”
Big Boo From Momager: Here Comes Honey Boo Boo became so popular that the matriarch of TV’s OTHER first reality TV family, Kris Jenner, allegedly feared the Shannon/Thompson clan was stealing the spotlight from her Keeping Up with the Kardashians kids! Freak Accident: During the filming of Boo Boo season two, a freak accident caused TLC to stop production, the National Enquirer reported. While filming a scene, Lauryn “Pumpkin” was involved in an accident that almost caused her to lose her sight. Lauryn was rushed to a local hospital and kept overnight for a scratched cornea and blood from the cut under her eye.

Sugar Bear’s Medical Mystery: TLC patriarch Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson spent summer 2013 battling an unnamed illness that was affecting his brain. It wasn’t quite loud enough so I put in subwoofer so I can really hear her extra loud. When she says ‘Holla for a Dolla’ the whole house shakes,” Miley said in her own southern twang about the reality show star.
Uncle Poodle’s Diagnosis: Honey Boo Boo’s beloved Uncle Lee “Poodle” Thompson revealed in 2013 that he is HIV-positive. “I knew it had been my boyfriend who infected me. I later learned he had been HIV-positive and was not taking medication and had not bothered to tell me about it,” Lee, the brother of little Alana’s father, Sugar Bear, said. Openly gay Lee said he pressed charges against his ex for infecting him, and the man was subsequently sentenced to five years in custody.
Fake Living Arrangements For TV?: Single teen mom Anna “Chickadee” lived with her grandmother Sandra Hale until the Shannon/Thompson clan got a TV deal to do Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, National Enquirer sources said. Then Mama June wanted her oldest daughter back in her own family nest! "Anna lived with Sandra until…June bribed her with $500 a month to move back in with the family and be on the TV show," said a source. "They thought that Anna's illegitimate teenage pregnancy would make for good story lines for the show."
Less Honey To Love: As Radar reported in September 2013, Alana “Honey Boo Boo,” now 8, was shedding her baby fat, losing 12 pounds. Meanwhile, her Mama June has lost a whopping 100 pounds herself! “I was at my heaviest at 400 pounds. Now I’m at 285. I was happy then and I’m happy now,” June, who walks a treadmill at the gym, told Radar.
June’s Scandalous Relationships: Mama June has four daughters with four different men she hasn’t married, and at least three of them have prison records, according to the National Enquirer. And June has refused to let Anna's father, ex-con David Dunn, or Jessica's dad, ex-con Michael Anthony Ford, see their children, sources said.
Car Crash: On Jan. 6, 2014, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon was admitted to the hospital following injuries sustained during a car crash. Who’s The Daddy?: Mama June has blocked Caleb Clark, who claims to be the father of her daughter Anna's baby Kaitlyn, from obtaining a DNA test to establish his paternity, according to an explosive National Enquirer report. Anna and Clark dated for two years, but he's allegedly been denied access to the infant girl since the day after she was born, Enquirer sources said.
Judged By The Voice: Adam Levine shocked Honey Boo Boo fans by saying the show represented the “decay of Western civilization.” The Voice judge and Maroon 5 rocker also told GQ, “That show is literally The. Worst. Thing. That’s. Ever. Happened. It’s complete f**king ignorance and the most despicable way to treat your kids. F**k those people.”
Thumb’s Up: Viewers have delighted in learning about the Shannon/Thompson family quirks on the show. For one, Honey Boo Boo’s 17-year-old sister Anna "Chickadee"’s baby daughter, Kaitlyn, was born with an extra thumb. Mama June told People magazine about the abnormality, "We have embraced [it]. It makes Kaitlyn more special to us."
Mama June Can’t See: The Here Comes Honey Boo Boo matriarch is legally blind after having childhood cataracts that were left untreated. According to a TLC spokesperson, speaking to the Daily Mail, June’s eye damage is so bad that "she can't have surgery because they believe it could do more harm than good." As a result, Mama June can’t drive.
Toddler Tussle!: The former manager of child beauty pageant queen Eden Wood claimed Eden’s mom was insanely jealous of her daughter’s fellow Toddler & Tiaras star Alana Thompson and her family. As Radar reported, Heather Ryan said in a tell-all book "Unleashing a Momster" that Eden’s mother, Mickie Wood, called the clan “vomit inducing.” Ryan wrote in her book that Mickie couldn’t stand that they became stars on their own show. Meanwhile, Toddler & Tiaras got cancelled last year.
Wild Bachelorette Party: Before Mama June’s May 2013 “wedding” to Sugar Bear, which was apparently only a commitment ceremony, she got drunk and wild at her bachelorette party! According to the National Enquirer, Ford also wrote bad checks and shoplifted from Walmart, where he worked. Ford has said he pays child support, but June doesn’t allow him to see Jessica. “I think the kids are being exploited,” Ford complained of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.
Another Tainted Father: Mama June sure can pick her baby daddies! Anna “Chickadee”'s father, David Dunn, reportedly received sentences for stealing a handgun in 1995 and the stealing cigarettes in 1998. What’s more, Dunn allegedly didn’t even know he had a kid until June took him to court when Anna was 4 years old! “June won’t let me see her,” he told the National Enquirer.
Lauryn’s Paternity Question: A source told the National Enquirer that no one is really sure who Mama June’s daughter Lauryn’s father is. “I don’t think June even knows who it is,” the source sighed.
