SURVIVED: In 2010, season 3American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino overdosed on aspirin and a sleep aid after being called a home wrecker by the wife of her married boyfriend, Antwaun Cook. “I didn’t care about anything. I just wanted out,” recalled Fantasia after surviving the suicide attempt.

SURVIVED: Pink revealed sheoverdosed after being a “hardcore partyer” from age 12 to 15. “I was on all the club drugs…selling Ecstasy and crystal meth and Special K. I overdosed in ’95, and then I never took drugs again, ever,” the singer has admitted.

SURVIVED: Former Cheers star Shelley Long suffered an accidental drug overdose in 2004 after struggling to cope after the breakup of her 23-year marriage to Bruce Tyson. Two years later, she told EXTRA, “I’m doing really well. I’m hanging in there.”

Tila Tequila

SURVIVED: Tila Tequila, the star of MTV’s A Shot of Love With Tila Tequila, went to the hospital last year after suffering a brain aneurysm which caused her to overdose on prescription drugs. After Tila survived the overdose, she completed rehab. The reality TV beauty said she woke up vomiting during the incident and “I really thought I was going to die.”

Eminem

SURVIVED: Eminem spiraled into depression and dependency on the prescription pills Vicodin and Ambien after his best friend “Proof” was shot and killed during a bar brawl in 2006. He told HLN due to his drug use, “I was a couple of hours away from death. I overdosed and almost died.”

David Gahan

SURVIVED: In 1996, Depeche Mode’s David Gahan overdosed on a speedball of cocaine and heroin at the Sunset Marquis Hotel in Los Angeles. Gahan later claimed he died for two minutes at the hospital: “I exited my body. There was a complete, frightening darkness around me.” The pop star recovered after court-ordered rehab.

Nikki Sixx

SURVIVED: After Motley Crue’s bass player Nikki Sixx shot heroin in 1987, he was declared dead for a full two minutes but was revived in an ambulance with shots of adrenaline. The rocker has now been clean and sober for years.

Tai Babilonia

SURVIVED: After her Olympic disappointment in 1980, when her partner Randy Gardner was injured, pairs’ ice skater Tai Babilonia partied hard and eventually got addicted to alcohol and amphetamines. In 1988, unhappy about her performances, Tai was hospitalized after an accidental overdose of pills. “I was overworked. It was a cry for help,” she later recalled.

Burt Reynolds

SURVIVED: After breaking his jaw in a movie scene, Burt Reynolds said he got hooked on the sleeping medication Halcion. In 1992, Reynolds said when he tried to quit Halcion cold turkey, his body was sent into a coma for eight or nine hours. “I heard the doctor say that they were losing me and I was going,” he remembered.

Chris Farley

DIDN’T SURVIVE: In 1997, 33-year-old comedian Chris Farley collapsed on the floor of his Chicago apartment after a night spent partying with a hooker. Chris’ brother John found his body the next day. The funnyman had died of a cocaine and morphine overdose.

John Belushi

DIDN’T SURVIVE: Animal House star and SNL comedian John Belushi, 33, was found dead in his room at the Chateau Marmont hotel in 1982 after he’d done a speedball of cocaine and heroin. His companion Cathy Evelyn Smith later spent 15 months in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter for giving Belushi the fatal injection.

Whitney Houston

DIDN’T SURVIVE: In 2012, famed songbird Whitney Houston, 48, who had battled substance abuse for years, was found dead in the bathtub of her suite at the Beverly Hills Hotel during Grammy Awards weekend. Although the coroner ruled the death accidental, cocaine and other drugs were found in Houston’s body.

Heath Ledger

DIDN’T SURVIVE: In 2008, paramedics couldn’t revive Heath Ledger after his housekeeper found him unconscious in bed at his NYC apartment. Ledger, 28, was later ruled to have died from acute intoxication from the combined effects of six different prescription drugs.

DIDN’T SURVIVE: Playboy model and reality TV star Anna Nicole Smith was found dead in her room at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, FLA in 2007. Her death at age 39 was ruled to be from combined drug intoxication.

Michael Jackson

DIDN’T SURVIVE: Long-troubled King of Pop Michael Jackson died in 2009, while attempting a comeback. The star fell to a prescription drug overdose of Propofol, an anesthetic he took to help him sleep. In 2011, his doctor, Conrad Murray, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for administering the drug to Jackson, 50.

Amy Winehouse

DIDN’T SURVIVE: Amy Winehouse, 27, drank so much that she stopped breathing and fell into a coma at her London home in 2011. Her death was ruled as accidental alcohol poisoning and it was determined Winehouse had a blood alcohol level five times the legal driving limit.

Brittany Murphy

DIDN’T SURVIVE: In 2009, actress Brittany Murphy collapsed in the bathroom of her L.A. home and was later pronounced dead on arrival at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Although the coroner ruled that the primary cause of Murphy’s death was pneumonia, the secondary factors were iron-deficiency anemia and multiple drug intoxication.
