The FOX 2 meteorologist who committed suicide earlier this week may have been suffering from brain trauma following an experimental eye surgery, her mother exclusively revealed to RadarOnline.com.

RadarOnline.com learned Jessica Starr, 35, killed herself by hanging on Wednesday night. Her mother, Carol Starr, opened up to RadarOnline.com on Friday and revealed the devastating pain Jessica endured in the months leading up to her sudden death.

“She had LASIK eye surgery back in October, and it was a new procedure,” Carol told RadarOnline.com. “She went to, like, four specialists. From what we’re hearing now, it can have other implications, including on the optic nerve. It can cause some brain trauma.”

Carol said the family has learned the surgery Jessica received was risky, in that it was a new procedure created within the last two years. The heartbroken mom told RadarOnline.com she had “no idea” that her daughter was struggling “so much.”

“It was affecting her sleep. She lost weight. You never expect it to get this bad,” Carol continued.

“She made it through so many bad things in her life. She was always a trooper and a fighter. She was a strong woman. I raised a strong woman,” the mother continued.

Carol explained that Jessica suffered from poor eyesight “her whole life.” She began wearing glasses and contacts at a young age.

Jessica was married with two young children. Jessica's mom said the popular Detroit meteorologist “tried” as best as she could to return to work after the surgery. She ultimately had to take days off after her initial return due to the complications.
