They say time heals all wounds!

Nearly five years after Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy bitterly ended their engagement, the former couple was spotted paddle boarding in paradise together on August 20— with smiles on their faces.

Despite their chummy beach outing in Waikiki, Hawaii, an insider swears to RadarOnline.com that the pair is strictly platonic.

“Maksim and Karina have been traveling to different cities for Ballroom With a Twist,” the source explains, citing the Dancing With the Stars pros show with fellow dancers Sharna Burgess and Chmerkovskiy’s brother Val. “They’re friends, but that’s it. They’re definitely not back together.”

In October 2009, the Ukrainian hunk told PEOPLE he felt “betrayed” by his former fiancée amidst reports Smirnoff got too close to her then-dancing partner, Aaron Carter.

While Chmerkovskiy went on to date top model Kate Upton and a newly single Jennifer Lopez, the Playboy cover girl got engaged to baseball player Brad Penny in 2010. They split soon after.

As RadarOnline.com exclusively reported in June, the single 36-year-old is considering using a sperm donor to start a family.
