Seven people are dead and at least seven others are hospitalized after a "madman" went on a mass murder shooting spree in Isla Vista, California, adjacent to the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara Friday night.

At a press conference Saturday morning, Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown said that a YouTube video titled "Elliot Rodger's Retribution " appeared to be linked to the shooting. He also called the shooter, who he did not specifically say was Rodger, a "madman."

The shooter rolled through the town, packed with students out partying on the start of the Memorial Day weekend, and shot from his black BMW.

"I heard shots, scream, pain," eyewitness Michael Vitak told KEYT.

Rodger, 22, the son of The Hunger Games second unit director Peter Rodger, was reportedly a student at the nearby community college, Santa Barbara City College.

In his incredibly chilling video, Elliot Roger spoke of his frustration at being rebuffed by women. Speaking with little emotion, while seated in his car and looking straight into a camera, he said "I am the superior one" as he wondered aloud why women didn't find him attractive.

His solution was, he said, to go on a shooting spree.

"I'm going to enter the hottest sorority house of UCSB and I will slaughter every single spoiled, stuck-up, blonde slut that I see inside there. All those girls that I've desired so much, they would've all rejected me and looked down on me as an inferior man if I ever made a sexual advance towards them."

Only two years earlier, Elliott was photographed in a much different setting, on the red carpet at the premiere of The Hunger Games, alongside his father.

Sheriff Brown confirmed that the shooter was one of the seven killed. He died from a gunshot to the head during a confrontation with deputies. It's unclear if the fatal would was self-inflicted.
