Good Morning America co-anchor George Stephanopoulos, currently working out a new deal with ABC, is disgruntled with the direction the top-rated morning show has taken in recent months, RadarOnline.com has learned.

With the recent losses of Josh Elliott and Sam Champion, and addition of Michael Strahan, Stephanopoulos doesn't like the way the show's staff composition is veering more toward entertainment and less toward news, an insider told the NY Post.

ABC execs "continue to bring in all of these people like Strahan, who is not a news person," the insider added.

A separate source said that compromises must be made, as GMA "can’t afford to lose George" after losing Elliott and Champion, lest they risk losing their momentum in their ongoing battle with Matt Lauer and the TODAY show.

"He’s going to get a serious pay increase; he could easily up his salary to $12 million a year or more.”

For his part, the politico-turned-broadcast journalist issued a boilerplate denial to the paper, telling them "much of what you’ve been told is false.

"What I can say," Stephanopoulos said, "is that I’m proud of our continued success at GMAThis Week and ABC News, and I’m confident that will continue.”

A network publicist said that “George and all of ABC News are all thrilled by the success of his two No. 1 shows, GMA and This Week, and we’re confident that success and our partnership will continue.”
