It’s Not My Fault! Bethenny Frankel Complains She ‘Felt Edited, Diluted & A Little Bit Controlled’ In Ill-Fated Run As A Talk Show Host

Bethenny Frankel‘s not holding anything back regarding her doomed run as a talk show host.

The former Real Housewives of New York star — whose lowly-rated self-titled gabfest was put to an end last month facing the loss of 70 percent of its’ audience via departing affiliates — groused to Andy Cohen on Tuesday’s Watch What Happens Live about the constraints she had to work under, in trying to appeal to a nationwide audience.

“I felt edited and diluted and a little bit controlled and I’m not really great when I’m shackled, as you know,” she told her former boss Cohen. “You have to kind of unleash the beast!”

As we previously reported, Frankel had tension building with exec producer Ellen DeGeneres regarding the stream of guests she had on the talk show, and it’s creative direction, including an order from the A-list Oscar host to not constantly regale the audience with upsetting details of her divorce.

Frankel — who said she was optimistic about improving with a season of experience under her belt — admitted the format is “not something I really should be doing,” and that she “didn’t love it like I thought I would.”

Despite DeGeneres pulling out all the stops to help her show biz subordinate, the program ended after just one season, having racked up a dismal 0.9 rating and a #14 ranking in its’ genre.

Frankel added of the miscues in the failed project: “You don’t know what you’re going to be doing until you do it … we were taping two shows a day, and it was [for broadcast] across the country, not cable … it was very structured.”
