NBC Correspondent Tom Brokaw Diagnosed With Cancer

NBC News Special Correspondent Tom Brokaw has been diagnosed with cancer, RadarOnline.com is reporting.

The media veteran revealed the diagnosis through a statement on Tuesday, but stayed positive noting that his doctors are encouraged by his progress.

"With the exceptional support of my family, medical team and friends, I am very optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing my life, my work and adventures still to come," he said in the statement.

"I remain the luckiest guy I know. I am very grateful for the interest in my condition but I also hope everyone understands I wish to keep this a private matter."

Brokaw, 74, was diagnosed in August with myeloma, a cancer that affects the blood cells in the bone marrow.

The South Dakota-native is currently contributing to NBC Sports coverage of the Winter Olympics in Sochi and has been with NBC News since 1966.
