Maria Franziska von Trapp, the last surviving member of the von Trapp family singers, whose real life story inspired the smash hit 1965 movie The Sound of Music, has died at age 99.

Von Trapp was the second oldest daughter in the famous family of seven children who fled their home in Austria to escape the Nazis in the 1930s.

Rogers and Hammerstein's musical about the von Trapps led to the movie starring Julie Andrews as the aspiring nun who won the heart of the widowed Baron father, portrayed by Christopher Plummer.
