Michael Douglas Says Media Has Overblown Marital Woes, Claims 'My Wife & I Are Fine'

Michael Douglas blew off reports of impending doom in his marriage to Catherine Zeta-Jones, claiming that the news of his separation has been severely overblown by the media.

"I have a crisis at home?" the Oscar-winner said at the Berlin premiere of his Liberace biopic, Behind the Candelabra, according to the NY Post, when asked about his home life. "No, I think the press has a crisis.

"We are fine. My wife and I are fine. We take a temporary separation -- but the press, it gives you stuff to write about."

As we previously reported, a source close to the couple told RadarOnline.com exclusively told us that “a big divide" developed between the Wall Street star, 68, and Chicago stunner, 43, in the wake of his incarcerated son Cameron's battles with drugs and the law in recent years.

“Cameron and Catherine never seemed to have a close relationship and I think Michael always felt she just didn’t care for the situation," the source said. "He probably felt there was little sympathy from her, toward him and Cameron.”

The A-list stars have been through a number of trying events in recent years, including Michael's bout with stage IV throat cancer and subsequent chemotherapy; and Zeta-Jones' ongoing treatment for bipolar disorder.
