The bombshell announcement of Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones' sudden split has fans stunned. Now, RadarOnline.com can reveal the even-more-shocking news that another man had come between them.

But it wasn't a case of Hollywood adultery. Rather, sources say that Michael's drug-addicted son, Cameron, had caused tension between the couple, and ultimately, their separation.

"A big divide between Michael and Catherine has become Cameron," a source close to the couple told RadarOnline.com exclusively.

Michael's 34-year-old son with ex-wife Diandra Luker has been battling legal issues and addiction for years, since his 2010 arrest for dealing meth and cocaine out of an NYC hotel room.

In April, a federal appeals court in New York upheld a judge's ruling to nearly double his initial five-year prison sentence after he committed several drug infractions in prison. He is not expected to be released until 2018.

After failing a drug test in January 2013, "Cameron is in solitary confinement and hasn't seen his father in an eternity, as he can't have visitors," the source revealed. "Michael is beside himself. It consumes him."

But according to the source, the same can't be said for Catherine. "Cameron and Catherine never seemed to have a close relationship and i think Michael always felt she just didn't care for the situation. He probably felt there was little sympathy from her, toward him and Cameron."

Catherine has her own children with Michael, Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10. She's reportedly been spending time with them in New York since the split was announced.

Michael, meanwhile, was in Cap d'Antibes, a resort town in southeastern France, when the news broke, staying at the home of his close friend, art collector and philanthropist Johnny Pigozzi.

He was spotted out to dinner at Le Petite Maison in Nice on Tuesday night with friends including singer Elton John.

Friday, he's due to walk the red carpet at the premiere of Behind the Candelabra at the Deauville American Film Festival in Deauville, France. Ironically, that's where he and Catherine first met back in 1998.
