The Real Housewives of Orange County franchise celebrated its’ 100th episode anniversary Monday with a retrospective showcasing all of the ongoings in the O.C. since the show’s March 2006 premiere — and the vibrant personality who’s been there since day one, Vicki Gunvalson!
Vicki, nicknamed “The O.G. from the O.C.” by Andy Cohen, was a part of the first-ever Real Housewives cast — the show would eventually set up shop in New York City, Atlanta, New Jersey, Beverly Hills, Miami, and Washington D.C. — and certainly wasn’t humble about her place in Bravo lore.
“Without me,” the Coto de Caza, Calif. native boasted, “there wouldn’t be a Real Housewives franchise.”
Still, Vicki’s fame has certainly come at a price, as in the flashback-laden episode, she compared her ride on reality TV to making a deal with the devil: Specifically, her 2010 divorce to her ex-husband, Donn.
“Don said, ‘Look at all these reality TV stars that are losing their marriage over this,'” Vicki recollected in the retrospective. “And I said, ‘Honey, we’re never gonna be one of them — seven years later, we’re one of them.”
She said that with the cameras rolling, “It was very difficult for Don and I us to hide the last few years of our marriage becoming distant,” which came in part due to the new doors opening as result of the reality fame.
Vicki said “the fact that I became more confident that I could support myself on my own” hurt the marriage, but “at the end of the day, he’s not in love with me anymore and it’s over, and I’m not gonna take all the blame.
“He’s a great guy,” she said, “but he wasn’t a good husband.”
