Seth Meyers Update! 'SNL' Star To Succeed Jimmy Fallon As Host Of NBC's 'Late Night'

Here's a great weekend update for Seth Meyers --NBC announced on Sunday that the comedian will succeed Jimmy Fallon  as the host of Late Night after Fallon takes over The Tonight Show next spring.

Meyers, best known for his "Weekend Update" news parodies on SNL, was hailed by NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt.  "We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation," Greenblatt said.  "His years at SNL's Weekend Update desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the Late Night franchise."

Meyers' SNL boss Lorne Michaels will executive produce Late Night with Seth Meyers and it will originate from 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York, home to SNL and the upcoming The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.

The funnyman's new job had been expected ever since NBC announced last month that Fallon would be replacing Tonight Show host Jay Leno  next year.

Meyers tweeted  about his new gig today on Mother's Day, linking to a New York Times article about it and writing, "So, next year, I'm going to do this.  Thanks to NBC, Lorne, but especially Mom."
