Amanda Knox wrote an extraordinary letter to the family of the girl she was accused of killing, and she's revealing it for the first time in her new book, Waiting to Be Heard.

"I'm sorry for your loss, Knox wrote to Meredith Kercher's family, according to an excerpt in the Sunday People.

"I'm not the one who killed your daughter and sister.

"I think about her every day. In the relatively brief time that Meredith was part of my life she was always kind to me. I can only attempt to imagine the extent of your grief," Knox wrote.

On the advice of her attorney, Knox never mailed the letter, but as RadarOnline.com previously reported, she is hoping the Kercher family will read her book and believe that she had nothing to do Meredith's gruesome murder.

Kercher, from the UK, and Knox, from the Seattle area, were both exchange students in Peruga, Italy and shared a house when on November 1, 2007, Meredith was found brutally murdered.

Knox and her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were found guilty of the crime two years later.  That conviction was overturned in 2011, and Knox returned to the U.S.  But earlier this year an Italian court ruled that there can be a retrial.

Waiting to Be Heard hits bookstores in the U.S. on Tuesday.
