No one was technically eliminated on Tuesday night’s edition of Dancing with the Stars, but the pool was thinned by one when a celeb contestant voluntarily quit the show citing injury concerns.
SPOILER: Who Left Dancing with the Stars On Their Own?
Put Dorothy Hamill‘s dancing career on ice.
The legendary figure skater, on doctor’s orders, withdrew from the competition on Tuesday’s results show, citing pain in her spine as result of a cyst.
“I’ve taken the advice from my spine surgeon and I need to withdraw from the competition,” Dorothy told host Tom Bergeron. “It could be irreparable nerve damage and it would be completely unfair for me to stay in this and have any of these people go home. I can’t do what I need to.
“The rest of life … is important. It’s not that I don’t want to be here. I wish I could give it my all, but I can’t!”
The 1976 Olympic gold medalist, who was deemed safe after her strong showing with partner Tristan MacManus Monday, called her time on the ABC show “a wonderful ride.
“I wish I could stay but I can’t do justice to the commitment,” Hamill, 56, told Bergeron. “It’s the most incredible place to be — I’m so lucky to be part of it.”
“It is a decision that has to be made,” MacManus said. “I am not frustrated at her, I am frustrated with her — there is something a lot bigger going on than this competition, do you know what I mean?”
Judge Carrie Ann Inaba told Hamill, “This is so sad, but I admire you for taking care of yourself: You are setting a very good example.”

“A couple who would have gone home tonight gets a one week reprieve,” Bergeron said. “Use it well.”
Dancing with the Stars returns next Monday at 8/7c on ABC.
