Passengers on board the stranded Carnival Triumph cruise ship have started to become physically sick as conditions deteriorate even further and plastic bags are used as toilets, the facilities overflow and the unbearable stench of human waste and lack of food supplies take its toll, RadarOnline.com is reporting.

Travelers have been calling their loved ones on what limited cell phone coverage they have, as the vessel is dragged by a towboat towards Mobile, Alabama after the cruise ship was stranded in the Gulf of Mexico because of an engine fire last Sunday.

Anne Barlow, a passenger on board the powerless ship, texted that some less able passengers were “struggling,” the smell was “gross” and her room was leaking raw sewage.

“Why can’t they get us off?” she asked.

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, the cabin carpets are said to be soaked in urine, while passengers have been sleeping in tents on deck rather than their own rooms because the air conditioning isn’t working.

Scarce food supplies have meant that holidaymakers have been forced to munch on cold onion sandwiches.

It’s also been reported that fights have broken out over food, the elderly are running out of medications and formula and diaper supplies are limited for babies.

“I just hope that she comes back safely and sound,” One of Mrs. Barlow’s twin 11-year-old sons, Colby said to ABC.

The Triumph, with an estimated 4,200 passengers and crew on board, is not expected to dock till Thursday afternoon.

Jimmy Mowlam, 63, whose 37-year-old-son, Rob Mowlam, exchanged vows on Saturday on board the ship told ABC that he got a call from his son outlining the horrors everyone’s facing.

“He said up on deck it looks like a shanty town, with sheets, almost like tents, mattresses, anything else they can pull to sleep on,” Mowlam said. “So far people have been pretty much taking it in stride.”

However, Mowlam alarmingly revealed that his son had told him that crew was handing out free alcohol to passengers.

“He was concerned about what that was going to lead to when people start drinking too much,” Mowlam said.

Dustin Martinez of San Antonio, Texas told of his concern for his mom on board. He last heard from her on Sunday.

“I got a phone call from her. Very brief. Basically saying, ‘I'm fine, We have food. No toilets.’” He told KSAT.

While passenger Donna Gutzman texted : “There's no water and you can't flush, so everyone is going in little plastic baggies and putting it outside their room.”
