The Couric Curse: Katie Opens Up About Losing Her Husband & Sister Within A Few Years
After tragically losing her husband and sister within years of each other, Katie Couric's tragedies were likened to the Kennedy curse.
The talk show host opens up about the pain she suffered after losing her husband Jay Monahan to colon cancer in 1998, and her sister Emily to pancreatic cancer less than three years later, in a new interview with of More magazine, and RadarOnline.com has the details.
“I remember somebody saying, ‘You’re like the Kennedys,’” she said about the tragic series of events that hit her family, explaining that it made her feel like an alien.
“It’s these parallel universes when someone you love is sick. Your world is this completely foreign place involving radiation and tumor markers. Outside, people are buying sweaters.”
Couric went on to co-found the National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance and is estimated to have helped raise more than $300 million for cancer research over the years.
“So many people have been through tragedies. I have become slightly injured," she said.
"That doesn’t mean if something else bad happened to me I wouldn’t suffer. It’s just that your threshold for suffering increases.”
