Ellen DeGeneres Dedicates Show To Sandy Hook Victims

A teary-eyed Ellen DeGeneres takes to the air Tuesday with an emotional prologue, addressing the horrific school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut that left 28 people, including 20 children, dead.
"Today we’re taping our first show since the events that took place in Connecticut," Ellen said in her intro. "My goal for this show every day is to make you happy and make you feel good for an hour. I want it to be a safe zone. I want it to be light and filled with joy.
"I want you to know that you can watch with your family. It won’t be mean or sad. I want it to be uplifting and I want to celebrate all that’s good in life."
Ellen admitted taping the show was "a struggle" because of her heartbreak over the tragedy.
"We’re holding you in our hearts," she said. "And today’s show is dedicated to you."

Tuesday's edition of Ellen also features Silver Linings Playbook star Bradley Cooper and singer Bruno Mars.
In related news, the first funerals linked to the shooting were held Monday, while classes resumed at local area schools (except Sandy Hook) on Tuesday.
