Following recent unrest among both players and fans, and a disappointing 1-4 start to the season, the Los Angeles Lakers have fired head coach Mike Brown.

Barely a month into his second season and following the acquisition of big name NBA stars such as Steve Nash and Dwight Howard to join Kobe Bryant on the basketball court, the team determined that their championship dreams required dramatic changes at the top.

Despite the mountain of talent on the team that is adored by Hollywood stars including David Beckham and Jack Nicholson, the Lakers have struggled so far and drastically failed to meet the high expectations.

Brown's sudden departure is thought to be the earliest firing of a Lakers head coach since 1999, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The Lakers were 41-25 in Brown's first season, losing to Oklahoma City in the second round of the playoffs.
