Things have gone from even worse to abysmal for Matt Lauer and TODAY as Good Morning America beat their morning news show rival for the entire November sweeps period for the first time in more than 20 years, RadarOnline.com is reporting.

According to the New York Times, "Nielsen ratings released on Friday showed that GMA averaged 5.31 million viewers in November, 466,000 more than NBC's TODAY. The race was much closer among the 25-to-54-year-olds whom both shows covet: in that category, GMA had 28,000 more viewers than TODAY."

ABC News asserted this was the first time that GMA had beaten TODAY during the crucial November sweeps period since 1994.

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Lauer will be fired from TODAY if ratings don't improve by February.

The 54-year-old co-host, who earns a whopping $25 million-a-year, faces the axe if the embattled morning news program continues to lose viewers to rival Good Morning America, and a replacement for Lauer has already been mooted.
