There were plenty of surprises and snubs as the nominees for the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced Thursday morning in Los Angeles, and we've got a recap of it all for you right here on RadarOnline.com.

Scandal star Kerry Washington and a pajama-clad Jimmy Kimmel -- a last minute fill-in for Parks and Recreations' Nick Offerman --  were up bright and early to make the announcements at 5:40am PT, which included surprise nominations for new series like HBO's Girls and Veep.

Some of the surprises: Betty White for best reality host of Betty White's Off Their Rockers; best comedy actress nominee Lena Dunham for Girls; and best comedy actor nominee Jon Cryer -- who previously won the best comedy supporting actor award for Two and a Half Men.

As for snubs, Survivor's Jeff Probst did not get a nod for best reality host, a category he's won the past four years; Two and a Half Men's would-be leading man Ashton Kutcher was passed over for castmate Cryer; and The Good Wife's exclusion from the best drama series category. American Idol was shot out in the reality category for the first time, while House's Hugh Laurie and Mad Men's John Slattery were other notable exclusions.

Pack-leaders Mad Men and American Horror Story each got 17 nods apiece. Rounding out the top-nominated productions were Downton Abbey (16), Hatfields & McCoys (16), Hemingway & Gellhorn (15) and Modern Family (14).

Kathy Bates had an interesting day, getting a nomination for best drama lead actress for Harry's Law -- and outstanding guest comedy actress for her one-off spot on Two and a Half Men playing the reincarnated version of Charlie Sheen's former character Charlie Harper.

Mad Men, a four-time winner of the best drama series, can become the winningest in its genre ever if it claims the title again, as its currently tied with Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law and The West Wing in the history books.

The Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on ABC September 23 at 7 pm ET/4 pm PT.
