Jillian Michaels became a mother of two earlier this month when she finalized the adoption of her daughter and her partner gave birth to a son, because she says the yearning to adopt was something that couldn't be denied any longer.

It was a two-year process to bring Lukensia home from Haiti — but she first began the adoption process through the Democratic Republic of the Congo and after her admission paperwork expired, she refused to give up on adoption and applied in Haiti.

“Adoption is a calling. There is something in you that can’t be denied," Jillian, 38, told People magazine.

"You just know in the deepest part of your being that you are meant to find this little soul and guide them through life.”

As a fitness trainer, Jillian had expressed her distaste in the past to put her body through a pregnancy and she was diagnosed with endometriosis as a teenager, which would make it harder for her to conceive a biological child.

Eventually she says she "felt the calling to adopt. The adoption process was not a simple or easy one. There were moments where I was starting to think it was not going to work out.”

But when her partner Heidi Rhoades delivered their son Phoenix on May 3 and they brought home Lukensia just days later, it was all worth it.

“That moment of getting Lu out of Haiti and the wheels of the plane touching down in New York … she was an American citizen after two years,” Jillian said.
