The iconic actress, who is celebrating her 47th birthday on Thursday, was only 14-years-old when she controversially starred in the 1980 steamy cult classic The Blue Lagoon, transforming her into an international sex symbol overnight, and RadarOnline.com has details about her scandalous rise to fame!
Shields, who started modeling and acting when she was less than a year old, was the youngest model to appear on the cover of Vogue magazine in 1980, the same year she filmed the sensual teenage drama with Christopher Atkins.
The film, which chronicles the love story between two sexy teens stranded on a South Pacific island, featured controversial nude scenes, which Shields later testified before a U.S. Congressional inquiry were mostly done by a body double due to her age. To keep her covered up throughout the rest of the scenes, her long hair was glued to her breasts.
Though the movie grossed nearly $60 million at the box office in the United States and Canada, Shields wasn’t exactly hailed for her acting efforts, winning the Worst Actress at the 1st Golden Raspberry Awards.
Over the years Shields has appeared in several television shows and movies and been linked to a bevy of Hollywood hunks, including ex-husband Andre Agassi and current husband Chris Henchy.
