Kate Middleton spent the day with father-in-law Prince Charles Thursday, taking part in an outing for his Foundation for the Children and the Arts at London’s Dulwich Picture Gallery, in what was their first outing together since she tied the knot with his son, Prince William, nearly a year ago.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 30, displayed her trademark elegance and beauty in a grey Orla Kiely dress.

Prince Charles’s wife, the Duchess of Cornwall Camilla, was also present for the event, and the three took part in arts and crafts-related activities such as painting and ironing among a group of awestruck baby Brits.

Kate and Prince Charles “have a shared interest in art, art therapy and children" which spurred the trip, according to a Clarence House spokesman.

Conspicuous by his absence, Prince William continued his six-week RAF tour of duty in the UK’s Falkland Islands.
