The Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, the leader of the civil rights movement, officiated a private service Thursday to commemorate the Soul Train creator Don Cornelius, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting.

"It was a private, Christian service," a source said.

Members of Cornelius' family attended and witnessed the cremation at the Rosemary Chapel located on the grounds of Forest Lawn in Glendale, Calif., shortly after 1 p.m.

"His ashes were placed in an engraved jade urn with a gold tone charm and were taken home by the family," the insider added.

Cornelius, 75, was found dead at his home Feb. 1 at a house on Mulholland Drive, in what the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office later ruled a suicide caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
