Lauren Scruggs’s mother Cheryl said the 23-year-old model & fashion blogger suffered through a tough Thursday, leaning on her supportive family and ironclad faith to cope with the searing physical pain she faces after her tragic accident.

As RadarOnline.com has previously reported, Scruggs walked into a live plane propeller on December 3, suffering injuries to her entire left side — including losing her left hand and eye — as well as a fractured skull, broken left collarbone and brain injuries. The tragic incident took place about 30 miles away from Dallas.

Cheryl, who’s been blogging about her daughter’s recovery, wrote the following Thursday on Caringbridge.com, the website the family’s been using to keep the public informed and collect donations toward Lauren’s recovery.

We awoke to a beautiful sunrise today…….probably the first day in over a month that I actually noticed the sunrise. Do you notice it each day? It’s interesting what we take for granted huh?

When we run to a refuge away from home, we tend to notice the sunrise or sunset, but when we jump out of bed in the morning and stumble to the bathroom, we often forget to look out the window to see what God has in store for us for that day. Keep in mind that God chooses each day to give you another one. We often take this for granted, until the day comes when life changes in an instant.

My heart was stirred today regarding the things we take for granted…
We often whisper to ourselves that we feel lucky for certain things, but really understanding this, is often overlooked…….

As we watch Lo getting used to the new norm, the so called simple things are heightened:

…..the amount of love we have in our lives
…. using both hands to do a task
…..trimming the hangnail that is bothersome
…..typing an email
…..blow drying your hair
…..buttoning your jeans
…..taking a walk

We got some encouraging news from doctors today, but Lo had a horrendous day of pain…….she woke up at 6am…..crying….trying to take deep breathes in order to relieve some of it.
We rubbed her feet and massaged her right arm and hand with lavender oil….and just held her close as the tears trickled down her face. The pain was debilitating……she finally laid still as we prayed….asking Jesus to take the pain away, as we have done hundreds of times over the last month or so. She finally fell back to sleep for a while.

The docs are encouraged by her progress, as she is progressing well for the circumstances. But we still have along road ahead of us.

It’s amazing how she continues to smile ….and to thank us for all we are doing for her. She thanks everyone….friends, family, doctors, nurses, therapists……..

God tells us to be thankful in all circumstances…..and she is living this out in front of our eyes.

Yesterday she said, “I feel Joy, and I want to make this a positive experience. I get sad, but when I think about it at a deeper level, God has a picture beyond my own little steps”.

That’s all I’ve got for tonight……..we are exhausted and depleted.
Love,
Mom

P.S. A friend sent me some beautiful reminders today:

Your dependence is on He who loves you the MOST:
Phil 4:13 I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.
Phil 4:7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Matt. 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Romans 15:31: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
