According to French newspaper Le Figaro, the blast was spurred on by an explosion in a venue used for the storage of radioactive waste.

Another local paper, the Midi Libre, reported that an oven exploded at the site, leaving one person dead and another injured. The paper added that no radiation leaks were reported as result of the incident.
