During The View's Tuesday rundown of Charlie Sheen's bizarre call in to Dan Patrick, guest co-host Nicole Richie -- who's battled substance abuse issues of her own -- said that ultimately, Sheen needs to take responsibility for his actions.

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Sheen called into Patrick's show Monday complaining he was ready to return to work after a brief rehab stint, saying "I was banging on the stage door like, 'Hello ... Where is everybody?' ... I guess they're closed."

"Everybody has their own path," said the  former Hollywood wild child turned mother-of-two, noting that she understands Sheen's rationale that returning to work will restore a sense of normalcy.

Still, Richie said she thinks it's ultimately up to Charlie to take care of Charlie.

"I don't think he should make it somebody's responsibility to keep him sober," The Simple Life star said. "He's an adult, he needs to take responsibility for his actions.”

Richie herself has made a remarkable turnaround since her 2006 arrest on DUI charges, staying out of trouble while her old running mates Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan have had more than their fair share of  legal troubles.
